HOME STYLE: Easy Seasonal Changes for the Fall

October 15, 2025 – JANET GUST

Regardless of today’s temperatures, the calendar says it’s autumn. Fall invites cozy clothing and hearty stews, crackling fires and traditional indoor gatherings. Be confident that your home is seasonally stylish when family and friends arrive.

Here are easy alterations for you that won’t break the bank.

Make a smart move.

Your home doesn’t have designated zones for the furniture.   Be brave and move things around.(But ask for help with the heavy lifting!). Rotate the coffee table. Swap chairs from different rooms. Choose different spaces for your favorite art.

“Moving furniture around can give your space an entirely fresh look,” says Houston-based interior designer Janet Gust. “And you’ll feel the change in the room every time you’re in it.”

Bring the outdoors in.

The rich warm colors of fall can be easily added by stowing summer’s light and brightand ushering in chocolate browns, harvest golds and ruby reds. Add mini pumpkins to bookshelves and coffee tables. Add new textures to your decorative pillows – take inspiration from the LUCKY TEXTILES Rich Browns collection. Put a flowering mum in your kitchen.

“In some parts of the country where summer takes a long time to move on, we can use our home interiors and décor to celebrate the season change. I love using colorful pumpkins, squash and corn cobs in table centerpieces.”

Curate comfy and cozy.

Those snuggly throw blankets that have been tucked away since last spring – put them back on your sofa. Use your fireplace (or YouTube one on your TV). Simmer cinnamon sticks or cloves on the stove for that favorite seasonal scent.

“Fall is a transitional season. It’s such an easy time to enjoy family and friends without the pressures of the holidays. My hope is to create a comfortable, inviting home.”
