Men Wear Pink Campaign Raises Funds and Awareness for American Cancer Society Houston

[HOUSTON, TX] Fuschia, flamingo, light and bright pinks will be preened and paraded during the 6th annual Men Wear Pink campaign, an awareness and fundraising effort for American Cancer Society Houston and breast cancer research. This year 60 of Houston’s most ardent supporters have committed to raising $5,000 each toward a goal of more than $600,000. To promote their efforts, they’ve vowed to wear pink every day in October.

“Men Wear Pink isn’t just about fundraising; it’s about friendship, laughter, and doing good with heart. Whether it’s a ‘Pink Night Out’ golf challenge or a pink tie selfie that sparks a donation, we’re turning awareness into action and having a great time doing it,” said Men Wear Pink Houston co-chair Ellen Elam. “We wear pink for the people we love. We wear pink for the families still fighting. And we wear pink because HOPE looks good on everyone.”

Husband-and-wife team Drew and Ellen Elam co-chair the Men Wear Pink Houston campaign this year. Their commitment to the American Cancer Society began over 5 years ago with Ellen’s sister. Two more Elam family members are counted among breast cancer survivors.

“My ‘why’ begins with my sister-in-law, Cindy. She bravely battled metastatic breast cancer for many years, and during her journey she chose to participate in clinical trials so other women might have better options in the future,” said co-chair and MWP ambassador Drew Elam. “Her courage, her determination, and her willingness to think beyond herself continue to inspire me every day.”

Houston native Zach Brewer will be putting on the pink for ACS for the first time this October. His eyes were opened when a male friend was diagnosed with breast cancer.

“Before his diagnosis, I honestly had no idea men could get breast cancer. Apparently, I wasn't alone in that misconception,” said MWP ambassador Zach Brewer. “My experience was a powerful reminder that cancer doesn't discriminate. It doesn't care who you are, what you do, or whether you're wearing pink or not. It can affect anyone. That's why education, awareness, and research are so important. Seeing the impact cancer has on families and friendships reminds me that this isn't someone else's fight, it's all of our fight.”

In addition to the ambassadors’ individual fundraising, Men Wear Pink Houston is hosting a Golf Classic on October 19 at Wildcat Golf Club with Texas Oncology as the Presenting Sponsor. Additional sponsorship information and team registration can be found at https://mwphougolf.givesmart.com.
