How to Style a Bed with Lucky Textiles Pillows

The bedroom is often described as a sanctuary, a place where you can relax and find peace. And quiet. Well-placed pillows on your bed can add to that sense of comfort and serenity. But how many is too many and when is it not enough?

 

This primer is a starting point to making your best bed ever. Be creative with your combinations – mix and match fabrics, colors and textures in similar or complementary tones to display your personal style.

 

 

With a twin size bed, you probably want to keep it to two pillows. You could opt for the streamlined

 

22 x 22” pillow as the base with a 14 x 22” small lumbar in front. The back pillow is Kelly Wearstler Graffito in Green, and the front pillow is Maze in Green. Or, for more drama, use a DEC pillow as the anchor. DEC (think “decorative”) is a 27 x 35” that can stand alone or be fronted by a comfortable 16 x 24”. Dorm room beds are great places for DECs. (They hide your sleeping pillow, too!)

 

 

As the bed size increases, so do your options. For a queen size bed place three 22 x 22” squares across the back and a 16 x 36” rolled lumbar at the fore. The two patterned chevron pillows  are Highs and Lows in Peacock Teal. Or use the larger 27 x 35” DECs in the back and a luscious long lumbar in front. The 16 x 36” lumbar shown is Diverging in Blush Beige and Natural (matching the bed skirt).

 

 

The scale of pillows should 

increase when you’re working with a king size bed. Position two DECs in back and stage either a modest lumbar or a massive one in front. The 16 x 36” lumbar is a Donghia Manhattan Muse in grey.

All of these options offer opportunity for expression while keeping your evening “pillow pull” to a minimum. That said, if you love LOVE layers of pillows on your bed, then by all means go for it.
